Professional Associations Super achieves double digit returns for second consecutive year
Professional Associations Super has again claimed its place as a top performing industry super fund, achieving double digit returns in the Growth option across all divisions for the second consecutive year.
The Fund's Growth option generated a return of 11.2 per cent for its members in the 2010-2011 financial year, ahead of the median growth for industry super funds balanced options of 9 per cent* over the same period. Professional Association Super’s Growth investment option has a similar investment profile to the balanced option of most funds.
Professional Associations Super has over 440,000 members across Australia and is one of the top 10 industry funds by membership. Its divisions include RecruitmentSuper, Accountants Super, Australian Enterprise Super and SMARTpension.
Megan Bolton, CEO of Professional Associations Super, said the Fund was proud of its strong performance.
“This result means our members can be confident in their decision to invest their retirement savings with us. Around 97 per cent of our members have at least some their super invested in our Growth option, meaning they’ll receive the benefit from these solid returns,” said Ms Bolton.
“We’ve worked hard to create a fund that delivers strong returns for members, and our performance combined with our low-cost structure suggests we’re achieving this,” she said.
Paul Kessell, Chief Investment Officer of Professional Associations Super, said the performance was also a reflection of the Fund’s investment strategy, which is built on a strong belief set and governance structure.
“We actively invest in a diversified portfolio of traditional exposures – in particular, equities and bonds - and have generally sought to avoid many of the more complex and unlisted assets that have proliferated across industry super fund portfolios in recent years,” said Mr Kessell.
“We now have approximately $1.8 billion in funds under management, but our performance in the past year means that we’re outperforming funds that are significantly larger,” he said.
Growth in funds under management is a focus for the fund both organically and through M&A activity with plans to be at $3 billion by 2012.
