Professional Associations Super is a major sponsor of 20 riders and 2 support crew who will ride 1100km to help raise awareness and funds for people suffering with cardiac arrhythmias, a condition where abnormal electrical activity develops in the heart, causing an irregular beat.
Mark Ashburn, National Sales Manager for Professional Associations Super, will participate in Paceline’s ride along the coastal route from Adelaide to Melbourne, starting on October 16.
Mr Ashburn said the Paceline ride is an important opportunity for the superannuation fund to join together and provide practical help for people who suffer from this common condition.
“Professional Associations Super exists to help people make their lives easier in retirement. With more than 400,000 Australians having one kind of cardiac arrhythmias and that number increasing in prevalence as people reach retirement age, this is an opportunity to help make retirement easier physically, as well as financially,” Mr Ashburn said.
Mr Ashburn has thrown down a challenge to kick-start a total $60,000 fundraising target.
“In the past three years, Paceline has raised over $30,000 for the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, with rides across the USA and from Melbourne to Sydney. This year, Professional Association Super has donated $5000 to Baker IDI to help Paceline reach their target and develop a better understanding of the cause and cures of cardiac arythmias,” he said.
Mr Ashburn said he was keen to get involved in the ride for the second time.
“People are continuously working very hard on researching this illness, with only a small amount of funding support. Rather than just writing a cheque, participating for the second year enables us to connect with the individuals who have learnt to overcome the illness and experience the challenge of the ride together,” he said.
The Paceline ride will start 16th October in Adelaide and will finish 23rd October in Melbourne. Donations in support of the Paceline ride can be made online at www.paceline.com.au, where information about the ride and the illness can also be found.
