The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has set up SuperSeeker, a tool to help you track down your unclaimed super. You will need your Full Name, Tax File Number & Date of Birth to start the search process.
If SuperSeeker lists the super as lost, it means the money is still held by the listed superannuation fund. In that case, contact the fund and update your contact details, telling them that your account is considered lost. Enquire about what you need to do to consolidate the money with your current super fund: some funds require a form to be filled out if you want to transfer money from their fund, while in other cases you may only need to hand in a form to your current super. Also, if your account balance is less than $200 and you meet other criteria, you may simply withdraw the money.
If your super is listed as unclaimed, it means the super money may have been transferred to the Australian Taxation Office. In this case, SuperSeeker has a form you can fill out to retrieve the money.
SuperSeeker will also search for your funds within Eligible Rollover Funds (ERF's), these are funds set up to hold lost and unclaimed super accounts. If you were a member of a Professional Associations Super division the balance of your account may have been transferred to our Eligible Rollover Fund (ERF) Super Safeguard.
